The ICU Ambulance, as referred to by most people, is an ambulance especially fitted to provide the intensive care that critically ill patients (requiring constant monitoring and/or high doses of specialized medication) sometimes need while being transported by ambulance vehicle. Unlike conventional ambulances, the ICU ambulance contains high-tech equipment a hospital intensive care unit (ICU) has, and allows around-the-clock life-saving care being provided to patients during transfer to hospitals. It is a vital service for patients who are serious or unstable and require vigilant monitoring or urgent medical treatment.
Some of the Salient Features of ICU Ambulance Service:
Advanced Medical Equipment: The ambulances are state-of-the-art vehicles with intensive care facilities such as:
Cardiac monitoring equipment: Monitors the patient''s heart rate and rhythm, ECG, blood pressure, oxygen saturation (SpO2) and other vital parameters to keep a check on the patient condition.
Ventilator: Delivers mechanical ventilation to those in need of assistance for respiratory failure or difficulty breathing, maintaining oxygen levels inside the body during transport.
Defibrillator: A portable device that delivers an electric shock to restore the heart to normal rhythm during cardiac arrest or in case of a severe, life-threatening arrhythmias.
Oxygen Support: Contains oxygen tanks and delivery equipment for ongoing support of patients with respiratory failure.
Suction Apparatus: A must-have for airway clearance, such as in case of choking, copious mucus production, or injury to breathing.
Higher Airway Control: Intubation kits and other materials to protect the patient's airway and maintain proper respiration.
Patient Monitors: Active monitoring of vital signs to aid medical decisions immediately before and during transport.
Highly Trained Medical Staff: ICU ambulances are equipped with medical staff trained to perform intensive care on the way:
Advanced Paramedic Practitioners: Look after critically unwell or unstable patients, such as those on mechanical ventilation, intravenous drugs and needing ongoing monitoring.
Neurological Emergencies: Those with stroke, brain bleed or other neurological issues that need to be continuously monitored/treated during transport.
IV Infusion Pumps: Provide IV fluids, medicines, and nutrients to help keep up the patient’s condition.
ICU Nurses: There are are more advanced nurses working alongside them that takes care of the sickest patients, including those in ICU, keeps track of their vitals, gives them meds, and ensures they remain stable.
Doctors (MBBS/ICU Trained) : Some ICU ambulances are accompanied by intensive care medicine doctors to ensure advanced treatments and patient support during the journey.
Use Cases for ICU Ambulance: ICU on wheels ambulances are unavailable out of doors of emergencies, when seriously ill patients need to be in critically ill care at some point in transport :
Significant Trauma: Patients who have suffered injury or trauma to the body (not only injury to the skull or internal organs (includes internal bleeding and fracture and dislocation of the spine) that is sufficiently severe to require a level of care or a level of continuous care not available at the scene of the accident or rarely, on the way to the hospital.
Post operation recovery: For post operative patients following extensive surgeries that require ICU levels of care for pain control and continuous monitoring of vital signs and stability during transport to a recovery facility.
Cardiac Emergencies – This includes patients with serious heart diseases like Heart Attacks, Cardiac Failure or Arrhythmias, who require specialised care and continuous monitoring.
Respiratory: Severe breathing difficulty (such as unable to speak in full sentences), any asthma attack, or any other breathing difficulty (breathing fast, unable to breathe lying down, or short of breath at rest.) Adult with SpO2 < 90% Any respiratory difficulty which requires intubation or BiPAP/CPAP in order to maintain oxygen level or ventilation.
Life Threatening Infection or Sepsis: The patient with sepsis or life-threatening infection that requires critical care, IV antibiotics and monitoring. End stage Organ failure is patients suffering from problems related to kidney, liver, or any other organ due to which they need to be managed in critical medical condition on the basis of regular monitoring.
Continuous Medical Care During Transit: The greatest advantage of ICU ambulances is being able to provide intensive care during transportation. The patient is monitored constantly and potentially life-saving operations may be performed immediately. This will allow the patient to be stabilized and ready for acute care directly in the hospital.
Application ICU transfer A type of interhospital transfer for moving critically ill patients from one medical facility to another, e.g., from a community hospital to tertiary care center. You can rest assured that high-level care will be preserved during transfers, with patients being kept stable during transfer and reaching the receiving facility with requisite medical support.

ICU Ambulances For critically ill patients requiring continuous monitoring and very high level of medical support during transport, our ICU ambulances provide reel important means of life saving care. Equipped with advanced medical gadgets, professional staff, and the capacity to deliver constant care, ICU vans fulfill their mission to make sure that patients are given the highest level of care as they travel to a hospital.
Our ICU ambulances allow us to provide hospital-level care outside of the hospital. Each team has state-of the-art-monitoring, with rapid interventions and full life support. We have multi-parameter heart monitors and defibrillators, ventilators, Infusion/Syringe pumps, suction devices with emergency drug sets. Each device assists us in providing consistent, close care throughout the entire transport. With a critical care doctor and paramedic/nurse, our ambulances provide reliable, rapid response emergency treatment and safe critical-care transfer for cardiac arrest, acute coronary syndromes (ACS), trauma, respiratory failure, sepsis stroke and other life threatening medical conditions. In other words, every unit is a mobile ICU — capable of stabilizing the patient, delivering advanced treatment on the road and passing over to the right hospital team quickly.
